Many people have been following the news stories on the former Kaiser Permanente Physician Jayant Patel. Here is a link to one of those news stories for quick background:
http://www.theage.com.au/news/General/The-scandal-of-Dr-Death/2005/05/27/1117129900672.html
Jayant Patel was a very bad Permanente doctor and before that he was a very bad doctor in New York. He was also shamefully protected by his own colleagues. Has anyone wondered why he was so protected?
Since I believe the public should be figuring things out for themselves rather than blindly believing anything that is written anywhere here is something that is posted at The Kaiser Papers - http://kaiserpapers.info to think about.
When any HMO grants a monopoly on payment for medical services exclusively to one medical group as Kaiser does, health care personnel must give priority to bureaucratic over patient needs if they want to get paid. This makes an insurance company, rather than the doctor, patient or his family, responsible for health care - and the insurance company is the one that really decides who lives and who dies. The end result is cruel. - That is how Kaiser is run.
The above statement also applies to governments, especially those in financial straits. Just substitute the word government for the word [s] HMO or insurance to make it applicable.
Why would physicians write glowing letters of recommendations about a rogue doctor that they know will probably not have a license very much longer ?
Well here are a few possibilities and I hope that any reporter that is quick on the uptake will pick up the hint buried here and start looking. The obvious classic reasons are to get the guy quietly out of town - limiting bad publicity or the rogue doctor has something on them they don't want made public. Then there is the possibility that at any moment they could be next to be examined for their deeds so they all protect each other. Then again, just maybe there is so much money to be made in this line of business of placing bad doctors out of sight that someplace like financially troubled Bundaberg Base Hospital in Queensland would do just about anything to bring in some revenue and has already become known as a place of asylum to those with that type of need. There are other medical entities that do the same thing in this world. This is really nothing new. Even governments routinely do this kind of thing. This also is nothing really new.
At the same time, while the public and staff are complaining about the behavior of the new guy hired, those responsible for giving him a job just pretend that they don't know anything about it. They just don't see anything wrong happening they all seem to say.
What do you think the finders fee for something like that would be? What would you think would happen if something a little more organized than a single straight finders fee were going on and it was found out?
In short it appears that Bundaberg Base Hospital was Kaiserized. I think that just maybe some doctors and some administrators there figured out or were taught just how Kaiser does it on what they claim is a shoestring because they always have a need to raise their rates.
Oh by the way - here is another link to a story about another rogue former Kaiser physician that may help you figure out why this all has happened:

Don't believe everything you are told about reporting to databanks. California physicians and their attorney's are supposed to report arbitrations and some of them just never get around to doing so. Sometimes when they get caught the reporting information is suddenly backdated and unless you were in on it you would never know what really happened.

Anonymous wrote... If you are unlucky enough to belong to Kaiser and live in the Walnut Creek area - beware of Ross Armstrong (http://www.permanente.net/doctor/armstrong/) and Robert Wiskocil (http://www.permanente.net/doctor/wiskocil/).
I have found nothing negative publicly listed by the California Medical Board at their web site at:
http://www.medbd.ca.gov/ on these two physicians.
I believe that all patients should check on their doctors backgrounds for reports of negative medical conduct and legal actions.
I also believe that all patients should feel safe in asking their doctors questions of concern to them. A doctor that is offended by patients asking questions probably should find another profession to be working in. It is all about trust, and if a patient doesn't trust then they should find another doctor.

The beginning of The Kaiser Papers Blog
It is early Sunday morning and I woke up today and said to myself - "We have so many of these stories of patient abuse and employee abuse that that have been sent to us that maybe now is the time to let the people openly tell their stories without fear of retaliation by the Kaiser Permanente Corporations."
That being written I have created this blog for the general public, both past and present employees of Kaiser and the for profit Permanente and other interested parties to share information. You do not have to openly identify yourselves if that is your wish. Your opinions and personal feelings are acceptable for posting as well as actual experiences. The public needs to know how you have been injured, both physically and emotionally. These posts will probably be monitored by Kaiser and the Permanente, government agencies and attorneys so keep this in mind with your content. We will not condone illegal activity nor the implication of such activity.
Hopefully, your participation in this blog will help others avoid what you have gone through when dealing with Kaiser and the for profit Permanente. So let the blog begin.
