CalOsha doesn't care about it. They want the Kaiser employees to demand the Kaiser administration conduct their own survey of the problem. The employees are terrified of losing their jobs if they do. CalOsha did suggest that employees are worried about losing their jobs over this they should all their union to complain.
I was told by witnesses (note the plural) that the doors to these several locations in the facility are not locked and that little kids could go wandering through. That doesn't sound very safe to me.
The EPA can't be bothered either to protect the patient population. I know because I called and talked to them about this. I was told that asbestos is everywhere and so it is no big deal no matter what the laws say about hospitals. In fact they repeated to me word for word what CalOsha said. These agencies are misinformed. The asbestos is not secured. Simply closing a door, leaving it unlocked and not sealing off air ducts is not securing asbestos. Putting out memos to employees that they can't use thumbtacks because it will release asbestos into the air is not securing the site.
You might want to give these agencies a telephone call to let them know that their job is to protect the public and that asbestos that is flying around in the air isn't really a wise thing.
I wonder why these agencies aren't bothering to protect the people of this state? Could it have something to do with Kaiser and The for profit Permanentes lobbying power? Why don't you the people find out and report back to let us know what you have discovered?
Maybe you will have better luck than we did.
We all hope to see you this Friday, at High Noon on the sidewalk outside the Kaiser facility, on public property at 2025 Morse Avenue in Sacramento, California.
