No one ever said that a doctor had to care about human life to operate on a patient. Jayant Patel's actions seem more like that of an exterminator than a physician and surgeon.
The hunt for former Kaiser Permanete Dr. Death - Jayant Patel, may finally be on. The Daily Telegraph, a newspaper in Australia writes - http://dailytelegraph.news.com.au/story.jsp?sectionid=1260&storyid=3263621
The Sydney Morning Herald also wrote today - The Indian-trained surgeon linked with 87 deaths at a Queensland hospital should be charged with murder, the head of a commission of inquiry has recommended.
http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Murder-charge-recommended-for-surgeon/2005/06/10/1118347571650.html
I think that a charge of murder should have been brought against the man a hundred or so patients ago. His score is in the hundreds now if you count the number of patients that died under his Kaiser Care in Oregon - maybe even higher.
What really irks me and what most people have yet to figure out is that Jayant Patel was used as a tool to bring in revenue for medical corporations and not much more. In the Kaiser system he got paid as long as he kept below budget and didn't draw negative attention to himself. There was no secret in that system of what Patel was doing. They simply only care about money and very little, if at all about the patient, no matter how personable the front line employees may seem.
In the Australian system it also was no secret to administration what he was all about but Patel did keep the revenue coming in and so all complainers were silenced.
Again, that sounds like Kaiser or even the past century German Volk mentality - For the survival of the company, profiting off of the weak for the greater good of the company's bottom line is acceptable no matter who gets hurt. In the case of a corporation run such as the Kaiser system, people are simply expendable. I hope that Australia sees the error and evil of the highly financially rewarding Kaiser system and ceases their Kaiserization. I hope that Australia truly values life more than money.
When a corporation becomes Kaiserized in this manner, where they operate more like a bank than a medical entity, people's lives are in danger. Bundaberg Hospital in Queensland, Australia had a true shortage of physicians. Kaiser is always understaffed when it comes to ratio between patient and physician. It is the same scenario in both cases.
Hopefully the country of Australia will realize that it is more important to be above board with the patients than it is to draw in revenue. My advice to Australia is to not follow Kaiser's example of promising more than you can produce. Don't hide from the public your entities inadequacies or lack of staff. If you don't have the capability to provide all services and cannot provide as promised or implied then be open and truthful about it. Pretending that you are capable of performing in a manner that is not truthful only ends up destroying lives.
Jayant Patel is an evil man. It may be an even greater evil for a corporation or a government agency to turn their backs on patients and subject them to torture and death for the sake of drawing in money.
For real justice to come out of this all the people, doctors included, that enabled Jayant Patel to commit murder by writing glowing letters of recommendation and leaning on medical boards to keep the publicity and reporting down should be rounded up and prosecuted at the same time. From the doctors in New York to Kaiser Permanente on the West Coast in Oregon, to Bundaberg Base Hospital in Queensland, Australia - all should assume responsibility in this matter because all took part in sending Jayant Patel out in the world to repeatedly kill innocent victims and they all did so knowingly.
Jayant Patel should have been stopped in New York and not allowed to continue his criminal actions. Instead New York, Kaiser Permanente and Bundaberg Hospital all aided a criminal to escape and be set loose again.
Maybe the police could start leaning on some of those doctors to see just what else there is that they want to hide. Maybe when the police finally catch up with Jayant Patel he will tell them what the other doctors want kept quiet. Then just maybe some real justice would come out of this terrible situation.

well done vicki
Vickie
I have read several times that "If we dig deeper then we would find out why patel got away with all his misdeeds" How can this be done im very interested to find out the reason he was let get away with all he did. I feel the person who wrote that quote must know. they are just as guilty for not letting others be fore warned
Dear former patient of Jayant Patel:
What do you think should happen to Jayant Patel? Should he be allowed to set up shop somewhere else in the world? Do you believe that he should be held accountable for his criminal acts or should he get away with it as is routinely done in the U.S?
I think he should be charged on every single patient he treated here in australia it was something to the effect of 2500 patient with approx 350 comimg forward charge him with them all and the ones in portland as well then he would never see the out side world again the pain and suffering to everyone may be a little easier there is no way this man will get away with what he has done, if he is brought back to australia. he will be held accountable for his actions, as for the recomendation (once i picked my jaw up of the floor) i found it very hard to believe how sad to put him in the position to do it to someone else what is wrong with this world

Follow the money trail and connect the dots is the simplest way to find the answer. No one writes false glowing letters and intentionally endangers lives while risking their professional reputations without getting something out of it in return.
This is not a case where a man made a mistake and his friends just helped him out so he could get on with his life. This is about protecting a criminal at great personal risk.
Examine closely the corporate structure of all involved medical entities, see their similarity in operation and how all involved have actually profited. This part is a no brainer as it is so obvious. I would never believe the excuse that they all just weren't think when they got involved in this.
Imagine that this is a different type of business than one involving medicine. Mentally remove the white coat that automatically grants god like status to the wearer. Then think of all the doctors and administrators that are involved as being instead car manufacturers or any other type of company that you are familiar with.
Now why would executives (insert whatever position you wish for this example) of car manufacturing corporations want to keep something criminal that a colleague had done in the course of his work quiet and why would they all go so far as to actually cover up for the criminal?
Surely there is more to this than wanting to keep the negative publicity as low as possible.
Maybe when the F.B.I formally catches up with Jayant Patel he will decide to talk in exchange for protection of some sort.
There are often enormous rewards and benefits with coming in under budget in some medical corporations. Having the reputation of being willing to do anything for people that really have little realistic hope of help elsewhere for money also tends to lend the title of fraud to that person. There is generally a very good reason other people won't get involved.
Some people in the medical field to have their work come in under budget sometimes do very unethical things. Do you think they would want their actions made public?
We can lay it all out - the profit motive, the "partnership" business plan called Kaiser Permanente, the for profit Permanente groups, the trade offs of letting someone go at ten years in exchange for cover-up letters, the two Kaiser physicians who reaffirmed their letters to the recruitment company, etc. And I think Australia attorneys should make sure that Patel's properties in the US are not sold or devalued by secondary loans. One of his assets is his Kaiser pension that came from vesting.

Hi Vickie - David in Bundaberg here. In dealing with the local newspaper recently, I pointed out to them the foolishness of their persistence in calling Patel 'Dr Death' and the implications of doing so should he be apprehended and brought back to Australia to face charges. Given that Patel is now known internationally by his less than illustrious sobriquet, I predict that his defence lawyer will immediately move for his trial to be moved from this region to somewhere it is believed he'll be dealt with fairly. I realise there will be people out there reading this who were victims of Patel and couldn't really care whether he gets a fair trial or not but the thing we need to ensure is that the law is seen to be impartial because the last thing we'd want to see is Patel walk as the result of what is perceived a mis-trial.
Unfortunately, the local newspaper is still calling Patel by that (well-deserved) nickname and by doing so continues to colour the attitudes of the people of Bundaberg.
Myself and another ex patient have said all his property and investments should be held and devided betwen the victims why should he be able to become wealthy through hurting, maming and the deaths of so many people
hi there i am the daughtetr of an ex patel patient here in bundaberg, i am extremely enraged the more i read about this evergrowing case, i have seen the suffering this man has caused, The sad thing is that no amount of punishment that can be heaped on this savage brute can fix the huge emotional and physical damage he ha caused to others.
I believe like many others, that he be sentenced for each individual case and that every link to this Patel conspiracy be undone and all made to pay for his actions.
Anyone would think he was the bloomin president the way they have gone to such lengths to protect him.
I mean what kind of genius does it take to know of the things he has done then give him a first class ticket home, Good on you Mr Lecke.
I truly Believe that Dr PAtel(who doesnt deserve the title doctor) should be donated to a medical college and the first graders can use him for surgical practice , it would seem like a good exchange. ahe is pure evil and unfortunately i see a similar case to MrSkase appearing. Are they going to give the bastard his fame by folowing him around with cameras and likening his tv appearances to a hollywood star,
Everyone knows who he is and what he has done ,the red tape needs to be cut and he needs to be dropped to his knees before he becomes the next president.
